The trail starts from the location called "Tambo." After walking 800 meters, you enter a tall Coihue forest and soon descend to the Casa de Piedra stream's edge, which stays on your left until reaching a hanging bridge for crossing. From there, the stream is on your right. Continue to a tall forest where the slope gradually rises until you again find the stream and a bridge. Cross the stream and walk the last 45 minutes to reach the refuge.
Another access is from Frey Refuge after a 6-hour trek, crossing Cerro Catedral between Claussen and Tres Reyes hills through Brecha Negra pass.
